Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show — американская поп-рок-группа, образовавшаяся в Юнион-сити, Нью-Джерси, и исполнявшая софт-рок с элементами музыки кантри.

Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show входили в Billboard 200. Международный успех принесли группе хит-синглы «Sylvia’s Mother» (# 5 Billboard Hot 100, #2 UK Singles Chart, 1972), «The Cover Of Rolling Stone» (#6, US, #2 СAN, 1973) и «A Little Bit More» (11# US # 2 UK, 1976).

"Do You Want To Dance" was covered later (as "Do You Wanna Dance") by Del Shannon, The Beach Boys, Bette Midler, John Lennon, Cliff Richard, The Mamas & The Papas and the Ramones. "C'mon and Swim" was written and produced by twenty-year-old Sylvester Stewart, later known as Sly Stone. In 1964, Bobby Freeman played nightly at the Condor Night Club in San Francisco where Carol Doda performed her topless Go-Go dancing shows.

Freeman began his recording career at age 14 with the Romancers who recorded briefly on the Dootone label. At 17, he scored a hit with "Do You Want To Dance" and appeared on the pop charts with various follow-ups through 1961. In 1964, he was back in the Top Ten with the dance-craze hit "C'mon and Swim", which reached #5. The craze had cooled by the time he released his follow-up "S-W-I-M", but he continued to tour widely over the next few years. Mainly supporting himself as a singer in strip clubs by the late 1960s, he released another single in 1974 on Touch Records, but it met with little commercial success. He has performed at the Bay Area Music ("Bammy") Awards in recent years.

Jason Paul "J" Brown:

Jason Paul "J" Brown (born 13 June 1976 in Hampshire, England) is an English singer who is best known as one of the lead vocalists in the former boyband, Five. He was the oldest member of the band, which consisted of himself, Sean Conlon, Ritchie Neville, Abz Love and Scott Robinson.

Brown was born in Aldershot Military Hospital, and as a child he lived in Germany, Canada and all over the North of England. He spent his teenage and young adult life in Warrington and Newton Le Willows before joining Five. Five were internationally successful, selling more than 20 million albums over a period of five years.

After Five disbanded in late 2001, Brown kept a low profile for many years, although he was involved in several protests in the London area, notably against UK involvement in the wars in the Middle East. In 2006 he joined up with three of his former band mates, Robinson, Neville and Love (fifth member Conlon was committed to a Sony contract and decided not join them) for a planned relaunch of the band. However, not enough record company interest was generated, and Five's comeback was abandoned less than nine months later.

Soon after Five's relauch plan was abandoned, Brown became a contestant on that year's series of ITV's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and made it into the final along with Christopher Biggins and Janice Dickinson and finished in third place. He also appeared as a part of Ant's team on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway (February - March 2008). Soon after he appeared on Fiver's "Generation Sex".

Rod Argent:

Rod Argent (born Rodney Terence Argent, 14 June 1945, St Albans, Hertfordshire, England) is an English rock musician and a founding member of the 1960s English pop group The Zombies and the 1970s band Argent.

While at St Albans School, he met Paul Atkinson and Hugh Grundy. The three of them joined up with Colin Blunstone and Chris White to form The Zombies. As a child he sang as a boy chorister in St Albans Cathedral Choir.

In addition to playing piano and keyboards in the group, Rod Argent was (with Chris White) one of the group's two main songwriters, penning the hits "She's Not There", "Tell Her No", and "Time of the Season", amongst others.

Argent was initially the group's lead singer, with Blunstone on guitar. When Argent's keyboard talents became obvious, he became the group's full time keyboard player, conceding the role of lead singer to Blunstone.

After The Zombies split, he went on to form Argent, who had a hit album in 1972 with All Together Now, which contained the single "Hold Your Head Up". They also recorded the original version of the rock anthem "God Gave Rock and Roll to You", written by lead singer Russ Ballard which was later covered by other artists, such as Petra and KISS. Argent's first album included the song, "Liar" (also composed by Ballard) which became a hit for Three Dog Night.

Argent later played keyboards with many other musicians, including playing piano on the title track of The Who's album Who Are You, and on Variations with Gary Moore, Julian Lloyd Webber and Andrew Lloyd Webber. In 1986 he composed the ITV theme music for their coverage of the 1986 World Cup - "Aztec Gold". It was released as a single under the title of "Silsoe". Argent also composed the theme music to the ITV (LWT) sitcom The Piglet Files airing from 1990 to 1992. He also played keyboards on and produced Joshua Kadison's 1993 album "Painted Desert Serenade".

In 1999 Argent recorded a solo piano album, Rod Argent Classically Speaking, in which he played Chopin etudes and music by Ravel, Bach and Grieg as well as three of his own compositions.

Argent and Blunstone have continued to perform together, and in 2004 they recorded a new album — As Far as I Can See — in the style of the Zombies. Subsequent album and DVD Colin Blunstone & Rod Argent of The Zombies Live At The Bloomsbury Theatre received favorable reviews, as did their 2007 U.S. tour - "The Zombies, still led by original keyboard wizard Rod Argent and featuring the smoked-silk vocals of Colin Blunstone, is the best 60s band still touring which doesn't have Mick Jagger as a front man".

In 2006, Argent joined Hamish Stuart, Richard Marx, Billy Squier, Edgar Winter, and Sheila E. touring with Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band.

David Lynn Thomas:

David Lynn Thomas (born 1953 in Miami, Florida) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician.

He was one of the founding members of the short-lived protopunkers Rocket From The Tombs (1974–1975), where he went by the name of Crocus Behemoth, and of punk group Pere Ubu (1975–present, intermittently). He has also released several solo albums. Though primarily a singer, he sometimes plays melodeon, trombone, guitar or other instruments.

Thomas has described his artistic focus as being the "gestalt of culture, geography and sound". Common themes crop up throughout much of his work, such as the US Interstate Highway system, images of roadside or "junk" tourist culture, Brian Wilson, AM Radio, and many others.

Something of a cult figure, Thomas's high pitched voice is one of the most distinctive in rock music; Emerson Dameron memorably described Thomas's singing as "James Stewart trapped in an oboe", while Greil Marcus writes that "Mr Thomas's voice is that of a man muttering in a crowd. You think he's talking to himself until you realize he's talking to you."

Marcus Miller:

Marcus Miller (born William Henry Marcus Miller Jr., June 14, 1959, Brooklyn, New York) is an American jazz musician, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He has made a name for himself, being one of the most well-respected bass players to this day.

Miller is best known as a bassist, working with trumpeter Miles Davis, singer Luther Vandross, and saxophonist David Sanborn, as well as maintaining a prolific solo career. Miller is classically trained as a clarinetist and also plays keyboards, saxophone and guitar.

Grammy Awards

Miller has won numerous Grammy Awards as a producer for Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, David Sanborn, Bob James, Chaka Khan and Wayne Shorter. He won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song in 1992, for Luther Vandross' "Power of Love" and in 2001 he won for Best Contemporary Jazz Album for his fourth solo instrumental album, M2.

Miller currently is bandleader of his own band, which strives to remain faithful to the concepts of improvisation and innovation in jazz-based music that is perhaps more accessible to different audiences. His concerts and recorded works are often regarded as intensely creative and therefore appealing to serious musicians. In 1997 Miller played bass and bass clarinet in a band called Legends, featuring Eric Clapton (guitars and vocals), Joe Sample (piano), David Sanborn (alto sax) and Steve Gadd (drums). It was an 11-date tour of major jazz festivals in Europe.

In addition to his recording and performance career, Miller has established a parallel career as a film score composer. He has written numerous scores for films featuring: Eddie Murphy, L.L. Cool J, Chris Rock, Matthew Perry, Samuel L. Jackson and others.

Miller composed the musical score for the Chris Rock-created sit-com, Everybody Hates Chris, now in syndication on Nick-At Nite.

Boy George (born George Alan O'Dowd on 14 June 1961) is a British singer-songwriter who was part of the English New Romantic movement which emerged in the early 1980s. He helped give androgyny an international stage with the success of Culture Club during the 1980s. His music is often classified as blue-eyed soul, which is influenced by rhythm and blues and reggae. His 1990s and 2000s-era solo music has glam influences such as David Bowie and Iggy Pop. He also founded and was lead singer of Jesus Loves You during the period 1989–1992. Being involved in many activities (among them songwriting, DJing, writing books, designing clothes and photography), he has released fewer music recordings in the last decade.

On 11 May 2009, Boy George was released from prison at HMP Edmunds Hill in Newmarket, Suffolk, four months into a fifteen-month sentence for the assault and false imprisonment of a male escort, in his East London flat. He was tagged and placed on a curfew for the balance of the sentence.

In December 2009, Boy George had a successful run of concerts at the Leicester Square Theatre in London's West End.

Erroll Garner:

Erroll Louis Garner (June 15, 1921 – January 2, 1977) was an American jazz pianist and composer known for his swing playing and ballads. His best-known composition, the ballad "Misty", has become a jazz standard. Allmusic.com calls him "one of the most distinctive of all pianists" and a "brilliant virtuoso".

Called "one of the most distinctive of all pianists" by Allmusic.com, Garner showed that a "creative jazz musician can be very popular without watering down his music" or changing his personal style. He is referred to as a "brilliant virtuoso who sounded unlike anyone else", using an "orchestral approach straight from the swing era but …open to the innovations of bop." Garner's ear and technique owed as much to practice as to a natural gift. His distinctive style could swing like no other, but some of his best recordings are ballads, such as his best-known composition, "Misty". "Misty" rapidly became a jazz standard – and was famously featured in Clint Eastwood's Play Misty for Me

Harry Nilsson:

Harry Edward Nilsson III (June 15, 1941 – January 15, 1994), was an American singer-songwriter who achieved the peak of his commercial success in the early 1970s. On all but his earliest recordings he is credited as Nilsson and is known for the hit singles "Without You", "Everybody's Talkin'", and "Coconut", and for songs appearing in numerous movies and television shows.

He was awarded Grammys for two of his recordings; best male contemporary vocal in 1969 for "Everybody's Talkin'", the theme song to the Academy Award-winning movie "Midnight Cowboy", and best male pop vocal in 1972 for "Without You."

Awards and nominations

Nilsson won two Grammy Awards. He received several more Grammy nominations for the album Nilsson Schmilsson.

The New York Post rated Nilsson's cover of Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talking" #51 on their list of the 100 Best Cover Songs of All Time.

Chart success:

Nilsson's next album, Harry (1969), was his first to hit the charts, and also provided a Top 40 single with "I Guess the Lord Must Be in New York City" (written as a contender for the theme to Midnight Cowboy), used in the Sophia Loren movie La Mortadella (1971) (U.S. title: Lady Liberty). While the album still presented Nilsson as primarily a songwriter, his astute choice of cover material included, this time, a song by a then-little-known composer named Randy Newman, "Simon Smith and the Amazing Dancing Bear." Nilsson was so impressed with Newman's talent that he devoted his entire next album to Newman compositions, with Newman himself playing piano behind Nilsson's multi-tracked vocals. The result, Nilsson Sings Newman (1970), was commercially disappointing but was named Record of the Year by Stereo Review magazine and provided momentum to Newman's career.

Nilsson's next project was an animated film, The Point!, created with animation director Fred Wolf, and broadcast on ABC television on February 2, 1971, as an "ABC Movie of the Week". Nilsson's album of songs from The Point! was well received, and it spawned a hit single, "Me and My Arrow".

Later that year, Nilsson went to England with producer Richard Perry to record what became the most successful album of his career. Nilsson Schmilsson yielded three very stylistically different hit singles. The first was a cover of Badfinger's song "Without You" (by Pete Ham and Tom Evans), featuring a highly emotional arrangement and soaring vocals to match, a performance that was rewarded with Nilsson's second Grammy Award.

The second single was "Coconut", a novelty calypso number featuring three characters (the narrator, the sister, and the doctor) all sung in different voices by Nilsson. The song is best remembered for its chorus lyric, "Put de lime in de coconut, and drink 'em both up." Also notable is that the entire song is played using one chord, C 7th. Coconut was featured in Episode 81 (October 25, 1973) of The Flip Wilson Show. The song has since been featured in many other films and commercials. It was also used in a comedy skit on The Muppet Show, which featured Kermit the Frog in a hospital bed. The song was also used during the end credits of Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. George Carlin also made reference to "Coconut" in the live recording of "Occupation: Foole" dated 1973, singing "Put de lime in de coconut, de lemon in de Tidy Bowl." It was most recently featured in the FOX television series Bones, episode "The Hole in The Heart" (5/12/2011); it was said to be the favorite song of a character killed in the episode and is sung by the remaining characters as they load his coffin into a hearse for transport home to England.

The third single, "Jump into the Fire", was raucous, screaming rock and roll, including a drum solo by Derek and the Dominos' Jim Gordon and a bass detuning by Herbie Flowers. The song was famously used during the "Sunday, May 11, 1980", sequence in the 1990 film Goodfellas.

Nilsson followed quickly with Son of Schmilsson (1972), released while its predecessor was still in the charts. Besides the problem of competing with himself, Nilsson's decision to give free rein to his bawdiness and bluntness on this release alienated some of his earlier, more conservative fan base. With lyrics like "I sang my balls off for you, baby", "Roll the world over / And give her a kiss and a feel", and the notorious "You're breaking my heart / You're tearing it apart / So fuck you", Nilsson had traveled far afield from his earlier work. Still, the album did well, and the single "Spaceman" was a Top 40 hit. However, the follow-up single "Remember (Christmas)" stalled at #53. A third single, the tongue-in-cheek C&W send up "Joy", was issued on RCA's country imprint Green and credited to Buck Earle, but it failed to chart.

Steve Walsh:

Steve Walsh was born June 15, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was adopted as an infant and grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri. He attended Christian Brothers High School. He now lives in Atlanta, Georgia. He is married and he has a son who was born in 1980, a daughter who was born in 1999, and another son in 2006. He is a professional musician and he makes his living performing with the progressive rock band Kansas releasing occasional solo projects and providing guest vocals on recordings.

Steve was in a number of local groups prior to his joining Kansas, most notably a group named "White Clover" which ultimately became Kansas. The band White Clover toured relentlessly and sharpened their original brand of distinctively American, hard-rocking progressive music. When the group was getting signed to Don Kirshner's label their name got changed to Kansas. Originally "Kansas" was the name of a defunct band which Kerry Livgren, a then member of the band, had formed.

With 1972's self-titled debut album, Kansas started a winning streak that has continued for 35 plus years. 1976's 'Leftoverture' and 1977's 'Point Of Know Return' were enormously successful and are deservedly recognized as rock classics, as are the previously mentioned hits they contained, "Carry On Wayward Son," "Dust In The Wind" and "Point Of Know Return". While many other albums by Kansas have come out since this time, the band is most known for their hits during the mid-1970s. Steve's solo albums have never had commercial success, but are considered by his fans to some of his best and most creative works.

With Kansas, Steve has released 12 studio albums, 6 live albums, 2 DVDs, a video, and numerous singles. He has had three solo albums thus far.Discography:

Hank von Helvete:

Hans Erik Dyvik Husby (born 15 June 1972), also known as Hank von Helvete, Hertugen and H?rtis, most famous for being the former lead vocalist of the Norwegian death-punk band Turbonegro. While not explicitly addressed to date, the name Helvete was adopted due to its meaning "hell" or "a place of suffering" in Norwegian, He is nicknamed Hank From Hell. Though a speculative conclusion, it should not be ignored that Helvete was also the name adopted by an Oslo music store, founded by the late Euronymous of ill-fated Norwegian band Mayhem. The store and its basement record label, acted as the defacto hub for Norway's black metal scene until just before Euronymous' murder in 1993, the same year that Husby joined Turbonegro.

Johnny Hallyday:

Bernard Murat, Theatre Edouard VII, Париж). Stade de France.

Demis Roussos:

Rain & Tears.

Be On An Island In The Sun Can’t Say How Much I Love You В том же году песня When Forever Has Gone достигла второго места.

Personal quotes

"Personally, I still don’t really know what progressive means. In some people’s minds if a piece of music is over 10 minutes long, it automatically gets the label of being progressive. I always enjoy playing arrangements kind of in a classical format, which is in movements. To me, music is either good or bad; it doesn’t matter what the label is. The kind of progressive label that I don’t like is the one that involves lyrics that quote dancing gnomes, Stonehenge and fairytales, etc."

Billy "Crash" Craddock:

Billy "Crash" Craddock (born June 16, 1939) is an American country and rockabilly singer. He first gained popularity in Australia in the 1950s with a string of rockabilly hits, including the Australian number one hit "Boom Boom Baby". Switching to country music, he gained popularity in United States in the 1970s with a string of top ten country hits, several of which were number one hits, including "Rub It In", "Broken Down in Tiny Pieces", and "Ruby Baby". Craddock is known to fans as "Mr. Country Rock" for his uptempo rock-influenced style of country music.

Success in the States

Craddock spent several years out of the music business while working in a cigarette factory and hanging drywall. He soon returned to recording, now as a country singer. He signed with Cartwheel Records in 1969. He soon had his first number one hit with a cover of the Tony Orlando and Dawn pop hit "Knock Three Times" in 1971. His version was faster and included Cajun fiddles. The song also reached the top five of the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart that spring, beginning a streak of hits that continued throughout the 1970s. Other hits he had for Cartwheel, all during 1971-1972, included "Dream Lover", "You Better Move On", "Ain't Nothin' Shakin' (But the Leaves on The Trees)", and "I'm Gonna Knock on Your Door", were all top 10 hits in 1971 and 1972.

In 1973, Craddock signed with ABC Records (later ABC/Dot Records), where he enjoyed his biggest hits. One was "Sweet Magnolia Blossom" but his biggest hit, 1974's "Rub It In", was also a modest pop hit. Today, several bars from the song are featured in commercials for Glade Plug-In products. Craddock was also credited with doing one of the better covers of Roy Head and the Traits Treat Her Right.

Craddock consistently hit the country top ten in the 1970s and he became one of country music's first male sex symbols, unusually handsome for a male country star of the era and dressed in stage clothes exposing his hairy, muscular chest as he growled his way through rocking numbers and love songs with a stage persona strongly influenced by Elvis Presley.

In 1977, he moved to Capitol Records, where he had his last two top 10 hits: "I Cheated on a Good Woman's Love" (1978) and "If I Could Write a Song as Beautiful as You" (1979). He recorded several more albums for Capitol before leaving the label in 1983.

Lamont Herbert Dozier:

Lamont Herbert Dozier (born June 16, 1941) is an American songwriter and record producer, born in Detroit, Michigan. Dozier has either co-written or produced several US Billboard #1 hits.

Career

Dozier is best known as a member of Holland–Dozier–Holland, the songwriting and production team that was responsible for much of the Motown sound and numerous hit records by artists such as Martha & the Vandellas, The Supremes, The Four Tops, and The Isley Brothers. Along with Brian Holland, Dozier served as the team's musical arranger and producer. After H-D-H left Motown in 1967 to form the Invictus/Hot Wax labels, Dozier began recording as an artist on their labels. Dozier departed from H-D-H in the mid-1970s, and was replaced by new arranger/producer Harold Beatty.

Dozier had another #1 hit as a songwriter in the 1980s, combining with Phil Collins to write the song "Two Hearts" from the movie soundtrack for Buster. "Two Hearts" was nominated for an Oscar for Best Song. Collins and Dozier also co-wrote "Loco in Acapulco" for The Four Tops, which is also featured on the Buster soundtrack.

Also, in 1984, Essex-born singer Alison Moyet scored a US top 40 hit with the Dozier-penned "Invisible". In 1987, Dozier co-penned "Infidelity" with Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall for the band's second album Men and Women. The song reached number 13 on the UK charts.

In addition to his work as a songwriter and producer, Dozier has recorded a number of albums as a performer in his own right. Peddlin' Music On The Side (ABC Records, 1976) contained the epic "Going Back To My Roots", which was later recorded by Odyssey. "Black Bach" featured the country-flavored "All Cried Out." In 1981, Lamont scored a Beach Music hit with "Cool Me Out." He had his biggest hit with 1974's "Trying To Hold On To My Woman", which reached number 15 on the U.S. charts.

Throughout his recording career, Dozier has largely avoided the temptation to return to his catalog of Motown hits, preferring instead to record new material. In 2004, however, Dozier recorded several of his hits as part of the album Reflections Of... Dozier's new arrangements frequently provide an interesting counterpoint to the upbeat pop sound of the 1960s originals.

He, along with the Holland brothers, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

In 2009, he worked on the music for the musical stage version of the movie "First Wives Club." He is also teaching a course of popular music at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music.

Garry Roberts:

Garry Roberts (EN):

Garry Roberts (born Garrick Roberts, 16th June 1954, in Dublin, Ireland) is the former lead guitarist with the Irish band, The Boomtown Rats, which came into being in 1976. He and Johnnie Fingers (Moylett) had decided to put a band together and, between them, they recruited the other four members, Briquette, Cott, Crowe and Geldof. After The Boomtown Rats went silent in 1986, Roberts worked with Simply Red, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Flesh For Lulu in the role of sound engineer on tours in the UK and USA. He avoided playing the guitar in public for ten years, after which he and Simon Crowe played together for four years in the rhythm and blues four-piece band The Velcro Flies. After having worked successfully as an Independent Financial Adviser for 15 years, he had become disillusioned with the Life Insurance industry and became a central heating engineer to keep himself occupied between gigs. Garry and Simon, with Darren Beale, on second lead guitar, and Peter Barton, on bass guitar and lead vocals, are now playing together as Boomtown Rats Roberts and Crowe and performing material from the Rats' first three albums to appreciative audiences all over Europe and the UK.

Garry Roberts (RU):

The Boomtown Rats —

Два сингла группы, «Rat Trap» (октябрь 1978) и «I Don’t Like Mondays» (июль 1979), поднимались на вершину UK Singles Chart.

The Boomtown Rats:

Вторую полнометражку продюсировал Роберт Матт Лэнг, с чьей помощью на свет появились такие хиты как "She's So Modern", "Like Clockwork" и "Rat Trap".

Альбом "The Fine Art Of Surfacing", включавший в себя данный трек, стал самым кассовым релизом "Boomtown Rats" и принес "крысам" единственное попадание в первую сотню "Billboard".

The Rats:

The Rats were an American garage punk band from Portland, Oregon, formed by Fred Cole from the garage rock band The Lollipop Shoppe. Cole played guitar and sang, his wife Toody played bass and sang, and initially Rod Rat played drums. Their sound was a raw mix of punk rock and garage rock with occasional country touches. Their self-titled debut album appeared on Cole's Whizeagle label in 1980. Soon after, Rod Rat left the band, though he guested on the 1981 follow-up Intermittent Signals before his death by suicide. (Prior to his suicide Rod Rat (aka Rod Hibbert) also played drums in 1980-81 for Portland power pop band Domino Theory). Sam Henry, formerly of the Wipers, played drums on this LP but left to join another Portland band, Napalm Beach. Louis Samora was on the drum throne for the 1983 album In a Desperate Red, still on Whizeagle. Samora left in 1984 to concentrate on his rockabilly band, The Jackals. The band broke up, but Bill Barker of Profile Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia convinced the band to reunite for a single. It appeared under the band name The Desperate Edge later in 1984. Soon after, Cole assembled a country band, Western Front, and he and Toody later reunited in Dead Moon. The Rats' records have long been out of print and sell for high prices on eBay. In 2008, Portland's Mississippi Records reissued the first album on vinyl.

Tupac Shakur:

Tupac Shakur (EN):

Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), known by his stage names 2Pac (or simply Pac) and Makaveli, was an American rapper. Shakur had sold over 75 million albums worldwide as of 2007, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. In the United States alone he has sold 37.5 million records. Rolling Stone Magazine named him the 86th Greatest Artist of All Time.

In addition to his career as a rap artist, he was also an actor. The themes of most of Tupac's songs are the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism, other social problems, and conflicts with other rappers during the East Coast – West Coast hip hop rivalry. Shakur began his career as a roadie and backup dancer for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground.

On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot four times in the Las Vegas metropolitan area of Nevada. He was taken to the University Medical Center, where he died 6 days later of respiratory failure and cardiac arrest.

Tupac Shakur (RU):

Influences:

Shakur's music and philosophy is rooted in many American, African-American, and World entities, including the Black Panther Party, Black nationalism, egalitarianism, and liberty. His debut album, 2Pacalypse Now, revealed the socially conscious side of Shakur. On this album, Shakur attacked social injustice, poverty and police brutality on songs "Brenda's Got a Baby", "Trapped" and "Part Time Mutha". His style on this album was highly influenced by the social consciousness and Afrocentrism pervading hip hop in the late 1980s and early 1990s. On this initial release, Shakur helped extend the success of such rap groups as Boogie Down Productions, Public Enemy, X-Clan, and Grandmaster Flash, as he became one of the first major socially conscious rappers from the West Coast.

On his second record, Shakur continued to rap about the social ills facing African-Americans, with songs like "The Streetz R Deathrow" and "Last Wordz". He also showed his compassionate side with the anthem "Keep Ya Head Up", while simultaneously putting his legendary aggressiveness on display with the title track from the album Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. he added a salute to his former group Digital Underground by including them on the playful track "I Get Around". Throughout his career, an increasingly aggressive attitude can be seen pervading Shakur's subsequent albums.

The contradictory themes of social inequality and injustice, unbridled aggression, compassion, playfulness, and hope all continued to shape Shakur's work, as witnessed with the release of his incendiary 1995 album Me Against the World. In 1996, Shakur released All Eyez on Me. Many of these tracks are considered by many critics to be classics, including "Ambitionz Az a Ridah", "I Ain't Mad at Cha", "California Love", "Life Goes On" and "Picture Me Rollin'".; All Eyez on Me was a change of style from his earlier works. While still containing socially conscious songs and themes, Shakur's album was heavily influenced by party tracks and tended to have a more "feel good" vibe than his first albums. Shakur described it as a celebration of life, and the record was critically and commercially successful.

In 2008, The National Association Of Recording Merchandisers in conjunction with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recognized him as a very influential artist and has added him in their Definitive 200 list.

On Wednesday, June 23, 2010, Shakur was inducted to the Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry.

The seat of the Catholic Church released a list of 12 songs onto the social networking Web site's streaming music service. Among the artists included are Mozart, Muse and Dame Shirley Bassey; the list also includes Shakur's song "Changes", which was released two years after his shooting death on a greatest hits album in 1998.

His double album, All Eyez on Me, is one of the highest-selling rap albums of all time, with over 5 million copies of the album sold in the United States alone by April 1996; it was eventually certified 9x platinum in June 1998 by the RIAA.

Tara Henley of The Georgia Straight noted that beneath the slickly produced, hip-hop—tinged, pop veneer of tracks like "Shook (The Answer)" lies an arresting voice, magnetic charisma, and driving ambition." Denise Sheppard from Amazon.ca also noted, " a teen-targeted pop phenom" whose "music has the one-two punch of melodic hooks and the voice to back them up; a combination that can and will appeal to dance/pop music fans of any age.

Chanté is artistically involved in her projects, especially in the writing process. She has received executive production credit on most of her music in which she has been involved, however she doesn't formulate beats herself, she typically comes up with melodies and ideas during production, sharing them with producers. Some of her songs are autobiographical, which she has admitted are taken from personal experiences, as well as her friends.

Chanté's music is generally contemporary R&B, but she also incorporates pop, dance and hip hop into her music.

From an early age, Chanté has been named a vocal powerhouse with a mature, lush voice beyond her years.

Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky (Russian: Игорь Фёдорович Стравинский; 17 June [O.S. 5 June] 1882 – 6 April 1971) was a Russian-born, naturalized French, later naturalized American composer, pianist, and conductor.

He is widely acknowledged as one of the most important and influential composers of 20th century music. He was a quintessentially cosmopolitan Russian who was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people of the century. He became a naturalized French citizen in 1934 and a naturalized US citizen in 1945. In addition to the recognition he received for his compositions, he also achieved fame as a pianist and a conductor, often at the premieres of his works.

Stravinsky's compositional career was notable for its stylistic diversity. He first achieved international fame with three ballets commissioned by the impresario Sergei Diaghilev and performed by Diaghilev's Ballets Russes (Russian Ballets): The Firebird (1910), Petrushka (1911/1947), and The Rite of Spring (1913). The Rite, whose premiere provoked a riot, transformed the way in which subsequent composers thought about rhythmic structure, and was largely responsible for Stravinsky's enduring reputation as a musical revolutionary, pushing the boundaries of musical design.

After this first Russian phase Stravinsky turned to neoclassicism in the 1920s. The works from this period tended to make use of traditional musical forms (concerto grosso, fugue, symphony), frequently concealed a vein of intense emotion beneath a surface appearance of detachment or austerity, and often paid tribute to the music of earlier masters, for example J.S. Bach and Tchaikovsky.

In the 1950s he adopted serial procedures, using the new techniques over his last twenty years. Stravinsky's compositions of this period share traits with examples of his earlier output: rhythmic energy, the construction of extended melodic ideas out of a few two- or three-note cells, and clarity of form, of instrumentation, and of utterance.

He also published a number of books throughout his career, almost always with the aid of a collaborator, sometimes uncredited. In his 1936 autobiography, Chronicles of My Life, written with the help of Walter Nouvel, Stravinsky included his well-known statement that "music is, by its very nature, essentially powerless to express anything at all." With Alexis Roland-Manuel and Pierre Souvtchinsky he wrote his 1939–40 Harvard University Charles Eliot Norton Lectures, which were delivered in French and later collected under the title Poétique musicale in 1942 (translated in 1947 as Poetics of Music). Several interviews in which the composer spoke to Robert Craft were published as Conversations with Igor Stravinsky. They collaborated on five further volumes over the following decade.

He initially came to prominence as the lead singer of chart band Sad Café, and later enjoyed further chart success sharing lead vocal duties with Paul Carrack in Mike + The Mechanics.

Philip Ryan:

Philip Ryan (born 17 June 1957 in Dublin), professionally known as Philip Chevron, is an Irish singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is best known as the guitarist for The Pogues.

In the late 1970s, Chevron was the lead singer and a founding member of short-lived punk rock outfit, The Radiators From Space, receiving some critical acclaim, albeit little widespread popularity or financial success. Following the break up of the band, he lived in London for a time, meeting and befriending Shane MacGowan through time spent working together at a record shop.

Following the release of the Pogues' 1984 debut album Red Roses For Me, he was invited to join the band on a short-term basis as cover for banjo player Jem Finer's paternity leave. He then took over as guitarist following MacGowan's decision to concentrate on singing--thereby becoming a full-time member of the band in time for the recording of its second album, Rum, Sodomy and the Lash.

Although living somewhat in the shadow of MacGowan during his time with The Pogues, and lacking the former's pitch-black sense of humour and distinctive vocal style, Chevron proved himself as a singer-songwriter in his own right, creating the popular ballads "Thousands Are Sailing" and "Lorelei" amongst others.

Although primarily known as a guitarist, he is also a skilled player of the banjo and mandolin, as first demonstrated on The Pogues' third album, If I Should Fall from Grace with God. Chevron left The Pogues in 1994 following much-publicised problems with drugs and alcohol.

In 2003, he reformed The Radiators (Plan 9) along with ex-Pogues bassist Cait O'Riordan. They released the critically acclaimed Trouble Pilgrim in 2006. It topped the independent record charts but did not make any inroads into the mainstream. The album included a tribute to Chevron's friend, Joe Strummer.

In recent years, he has become, in effect, The Pogues' unofficial spokesperson and resident expert on the reclusive Shane MacGowan--frequently visiting online forums and directly answering questions from fans. In 2004, he personally oversaw the remastering and re-release of The Pogues' entire back catalogue on CD. He now tours regularly with The Pogues again after a successful reunion tour in 2001.

In June 2007 it was announced on The Pogues' website that Chevron had been diagnosed with a case of "locally advanced" throat cancer. In early 2008 it was announced via The Pogues official website that Chevron had recovered, and to his surprise and joy his hearing had returned to almost pre-treatment levels. He embarked on the March 2008 tour of the United States and managed to sing "Thousands Are Sailing" in each of the performances.

When not touring with The Pogues much of his time is spent seeing plays, musicals and operas primarily in London, Dublin and New York. Occasionally, he is involved professionally with productions and his reviews are regularly published on The Pogues official forum under 'Speaker's Corner.'

Eric Matthew Stefani:

Eric Matthew Stefani (born June 17, 1967) is an American pop musician, former Simpsons animator, composer and writer.

Stefani attended Loara High School in Anaheim, California. He worked at a Dairy Queen with his sister Gwen and John Spence; the three of them formed the band No Doubt.

He studied animation at the California Institute of the Arts, but left in 1991.

The group added several members, performing live shows at Fenders Ballroom in Long Beach. The group started writing original material, much of which Eric contributed. Eric left after the band's breakthrough album Tragic Kingdom was recorded. He and Gwen were nominated at the 1998 Grammy Awards for Song of the Year for "Don't Speak".

Eric found time between Cypress College and the band to get brief encounters working as a layout animator for cartoon director John Kricfalusi through Lynne Naylor including Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, Beany and Cecil and the Troop Beverly Hills title sequence. Those jobs lead Eric to work at The Bob Clampett Studio for Ruth Clampett, where he traced 35 mm film enlargements of original Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig animation frames to create sericels. During that time Clampett told Eric there was a new project upstairs called The Simpsons and that he should take a look.

Eric finished work on a short animation film titled "Frisbee" (2008), released June 27, 2008, and his most recent effort in a series of solo albums is "Let's Ride Horses" (2007). "Pumpin' Water" (2001), "In Tune" (2002), "Land of Make Believe" (2003), "Jazz Circus" (2005), The Best of ERIC STEFANI (2008). He has currently been working on his album "On Time" (2011) for three years with songs dating back to 1997.

Ray McKinley:

Ray McKinley (June 18, 1910 –May 7, 1995) was an American jazz drummer, singer, and bandleader.

McKinley got his start working with local bands in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, before joining Smith Ballew in 1929, when he met Glenn Miller. The two formed a friendship which lasted from 1929 until Miller's death in 1944. McKinley and Miller joined the Dorsey Brothers in 1934. Miller left for Ray Noble in December 1934, while McKinley remained. The Dorsey Brothers band became Jimmy's after Tommy left and formed his own band in 1935.

McKinley remained with Jimmy until 1939, when he joined Will Bradley, becoming co-leader. His biggest hit with Bradley, as a singer, was "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar," which he recorded early in the year 1940, (and for which McKinley got partial songwriting credit under his wife's maiden name Eleanore Sheehy). He is referred to as "Eight Beat Mack" in the lyrics to the song "Down the Road a Piece," which he recorded as a trio with Will Bradley and Freddie Slack in 1940. This was the earliest recording of the song, which was written specifically for Bradley's band by Don Raye. McKinley and Bradley split in 1942 and McKinley formed his own band, which recorded for Capitol Records. The McKinley band was short-lived. When McKinley broke up the band, he joined Glenn Miller's Army Air Force band, which he co-led with arranger Jerry Gray after Miller's disappearance in December 1944. Upon being discharged at the end of the following year, McKinley formed an excellent, remarkably modern big band that featured a book of original material by legendary arranger Eddie Sauter (along with a helping of novelty vocals by the leader). Sam Butera, later of the back up band for Louis Prima was also a member. But with the business in decline, by 1950 that band was history and McKinley began evolving into a part-time leader and sometime radio and TV personality. In 1956, capitalizing on the popularity of The Glenn Miller Story movie with James Stewart, McKinley was chosen to be the leader of the revived Glenn Miller band, which he led until 1966. He co-hosted (with former Air Force band vocalist Johnny Desmond) a 13-week CBS-TV summer series with the band on CBS-TV in 1961. Ray McKinley's last recording session was in 1977 for Chirascuro records.

McCartney gained worldwide fame as a member of The Beatles, alongside John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. McCartney and Lennon formed one of the most influential and successful songwriting partnerships and wrote some of the most popular songs in the history of rock music. After leaving The Beatles, McCartney launched a successful solo career and formed the band Wings with his first wife, Linda Eastman, and singer-songwriter Denny Laine. McCartney is listed in Guinness World Records as the "most successful musician and composer in popular music history", with 60 gold discs and sales of 100 million singles in the UK.

BBC News Online readers named McCartney the "greatest composer of the millennium", and BBC News cites his Beatles song "Yesterday" as the most covered song in the history of recorded music—by over 2,200 artists—and since its 1965 release, has been played more than 7,000,000 times on American television and radio according to the BBC. Wings' 1977 single "Mull of Kintyre" became the first single to sell more than two million copies in the UK, and remains the UK's top selling non-charity single. Based on the 93 weeks his compositions have spent at the top spot of the UK chart, and 24 number one singles to his credit, McCartney is the most successful songwriter in UK singles chart history. As a performer or songwriter, McCartney was responsible for 32 number one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and has sold 15.5 million RIAA certified albums in the US alone.

Rolling Stone.

«Mull of Kintyre» (Wings),

Carl Dean Radle:

Carl Dean Radle (June 18, 1942 - May 30, 1980) was a bass guitarist who toured and recorded with many of the most influential recording artists of the late 1960s and 1970s. He was postumously inducted to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2006.

Ultimately, Radle was best known for his lifetime association with Eric Clapton, starting in 1969 with Delaney and Bonnie and Friends and 1970 with Derek and the Dominos, recording alongside drummer Jim Gordon, guitarist Duane Allman, and keyboardist Bobby Whitlock. In 1970 he took part in Joe Cocker's famous Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. He worked on all of Clapton's solo projects from 1970 until 1979 and was a member of Clapton's touring band Eric Clapton & His Band from 1974 through 1979. Radle was instrumental in facilitating Clapton's return to recording and touring in 1974. During Clapton's three-year hiatus, Radle furnished him with a supply of tapes of Okie musicians with whom he'd been working. Dick Sims and Jamie Oldaker were musicians who became the core of Clapton's band during the 1970s. Radle served as more than a sideman. He also acted as arranger on several songs, most notably "Motherless Children". Radle earned an associate producer's credit on No Reason to Cry.

Radle became a session musician for many of the most famous blues rock and rock and roll artists in the 1970s. can be seen in the famous concert film, The Concert for Bangladesh, resulting in an album from that concert released in 1972. During just those two years, by the time the album The Concert for Bangladesh was released, Radle had recorded albums with Dave Mason, J. J. Cale, George Harrison, Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, and Buddy Guy among others. He performed with many other notable guests and can be seen in Martin Scorsese's documentary film, The Last Waltz, a final concert performance of The Band, in 1978.

Over the course of his career, Radle played on a number of gold and platinum singles and albums, and garnered the respect of many musicians.

Radle was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and died in 1980 from a kidney infection, exacerbated by the effects of alcohol and narcotics.

Jackie Leven:

Jackie Leven (born 18 June 1950, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland) is a Scottish songwriter and folk musician.

Leven started his musical career in the late 1960s under the pseudonym "John St Field", and recorded one album, Control, between 1973 and 1975.

He formed the band Doll by Doll in 1977. They released four albums between 1979 and 1982. Doll by Doll Blended folk, blues, Celtic, psychedelic and punk influences, and featured Leven as the main songwriter.

After Doll by Doll disbanded in 1983, Leven began a solo career. He suffered a street assault and near strangulation during the recording of his first solo album in 1984, which left him unable to speak for nearly two years. During this time he became addicted to heroin. During this time he collaborated with fellow ex-Doll by Dolls members Joe Shaw and David Macintosh, plus ex-Sex Pistol Glen Matlock to release the single "Big Tears" under the band name Concrete Bulletproof Invisible. The record was a Melody Maker single of the week in 1988.

Leven is credited on the 1997 album Shifting City by John Foxx for the title of an electronic dance track called 'Concrete Bulletproof Invisible'. With Doll by Doll, Leven supported Ultravox at several gigs on their UK tour in October 1978.

In 1994 his solo career restarted with the release of the mini-album Songs from the Argyll Cycle and the full-length album The Mystery of Love is Greater than the Mystery of Death, now signed to Cooking Vinyl and recording in the folk rock style. Since then he has released fifteen albums, including a joint album with crime writer Ian Rankin, Jackie Leven Said, with keyboardist Michael Cosgrave. In addition to his broader commercial releases, he has released a number of limited edition, fanclub-only live albums through the Haunted Valley fanzine and website.

In 2006 Leven released the album Songs For Lonely Americans using the pseudonym "Sir Vincent Lone". A second Sir Vincent Lone CD, When The Bridegroom Comes (Songs For Women), was recorded a year later. Initially sold only at live shows, it proved so successful that it eventually saw commercial release by Cooking Vinyl.

He eventually cured himself of his addiction with the help of his wife Carol, through a combination of acupuncture and psychic healing. This led him to form the CORE Trust organization, which favours a holistic approach to the treatment of heroin addiction.

Leven wrote about the "Sir Vincent" pseudonym:

"Some years ago I noticed that I was writing a lot more songs than I was ever going to record and get released, especially in these times where you can only release one studio album every eighteen months. As I am a writer of genius, this began to worry me more and more. So I went to see my Cooking Vinyl boss, Martin Goldschmidt, to ask him if I could make more records. He said no. I said to him 'look, The Beatles once released four albums in one year, and nobody said to them, hey that's too many records in one year'. Martin said 'Jackie, this is not 1967 and you are not The Beatles'. We talked some more and we agreed that I could make records under a different name - that name is Sir Vincent Lone."

Leven's next album, Lovers at the Gun Club was released in 2008. He released an album in 2010, Gothic Road.

Alison Moyet:

Alison Moyet (born 18 June 1961), is an English pop singer-songwriter, noted for her bluesy voice, whose UK album sales have reached a certified 2.3 million, with 800,000 singles sold, all in the UK, where all seven of her studio albums and three compilation albums have charted in the Top 40 UK Album Chart, with two of the albums reaching number one. She has also achieved nine Top 30 singles and five Top 10 hits in the UK Singles Chart.

Solo career

In 1984, Moyet released her debut solo album Alf (titled after her punk-era nickname). Alf was produced by the record producing and songwriting team of Jolley & Swain. The album was co-written by the duo and Moyet, with the exception of "Invisible", which was written specifically for her by Lamont Dozier. The record was a hit in Britain, reaching #1 in the album chart. Alf spawned three international hit singles, "Love Resurrection" (UK #10), "Invisible" (UK #21) and "All Cried Out" (UK #8). In the US, "Invisible" was a Top 40 hit (something Yazoo had never achieved). In some European territories, a fourth single, "For You Only", was also released.

In 1985, Moyet performed at Live Aid alongside Paul Young, and later returned unscheduled to the stage (alongside Bob Geldof, David Bowie and Pete Townshend) to provide emergency vocals on "Let It Be" when the microphone on Paul McCartney's piano failed, leaving him unable to be heard. Moyet also released a single not featured on Alf, a cover of the standard "That Ole Devil Called Love", which climbed to #2 on the UK Singles Chart (it remains Moyet's highest-charting UK single).

Moyet had another big UK hit the following year with "Is This Love?" (co-written by the Eurythmics' David A. Stewart, under the pseudonym Jean Guiot), followed in 1987 by her second LP, Raindancing. Raindancing spawned further hit singles, including a cover of Floy Joy's "Weak In The Presence of Beauty" and "Ordinary Girl". In 1987, she scored another cover hit with "Love Letters", which peaked at UK #4. The video for the song featured comedy duo French & Saunders.

Following a period of personal and career evaluation, Hoodoo was released in 1991. The album sold respectably in the UK, and Moyet was nominated for a Grammy for the single "It Won't Be Long". However, the release of Hoodoo marked the beginning of what was to become a long fight for Moyet to secure complete control of her artistic direction. Like many similar artists (including Aimee Mann and the late Kirsty MacColl), Moyet was reluctant to record a radio-friendly "pop" album simply for the sake of creating chart hits.

Moyet's next album, Essex (1994), was also a source of controversy for her; in order for the album to be released, her label (now Sony) insisted that certain Essex tracks be re-recorded and re-produced, and that there be additional material remixed to create a more 'commercial' package. The video for the single "Whispering Your Name" again featured Dawn French.

Following the release of Essex, Sony released a greatest hits compilation of Moyet's work. Singles entered the UK charts at #1 and, following a UK tour, was re-issued as a double CD set which included "Live (No Overdubs)", a bonus live CD. Upon re-issue, Singles charted again, this time in the Top 20.

Due to prolonged litigation with Sony, Moyet did not record or release a new studio album for over eight years after the release of Essex. During this time, however, she recorded vocals for Tricky, Sylk-130, Ocean Colour Scene, The Lightning Seeds, and King Britt, and was featured on the British leg of the Lilith Fair tour. 2001 saw the release of The Essential Alison Moyet CD, and in 2002 The Essential Alison Moyet DVD.

In 1995, she sang back-up vocals with Sinead O'Connor for one of Dusty Springfield's last television appearances, singing "Where Is a Woman to Go?" on the music show Later With Jools Holland.

In August 2002, Moyet was released from her Sony contract. Moyet signed to Sanctuary Records and released her first studio album in eight years. Hometime was produced by The Insects, who had also produced works by Massive Attack and Madonna. The release of the CD launched Moyet into the top five best-selling female UK artists of 2002, and resulted in a BRIT Awards nomination for Best Female Vocalist, as well as a nomination for the Mercury Music Prize. Hometime was certified Gold in the UK for sales in excess of 100,000 copies with little promotion.

Voice, a collection of cover versions, was released on 6 September 2004 and entered the UK charts at #7. Scored and produced by Moyet's neighbour (and Academy Award winner) Anne Dudley, the album was later re-issued with a bonus track, "Alfie". A companion DVD, One Blue Voice, was released in 2006. Voice was certified Gold in the UK within four weeks of its release.

In December 2006 Moyet signed a recording contract with W14 Music, a Universal Music Group imprint. The deal saw Moyet reunited with label head John Williams, who was her A&R man for her last two albums, Hometime and Voice.

Moyet's album, The Turn, was released on 15 October 2007, preceded by the single "One More Time" a week earlier. The album featured self-penned songs, including the three numbers she wrote for the stage play, Smaller in which she starred with Dawn French. For these songs, again Moyet worked alongside producer/songwriter and frequent Moyet collaborator Pete Glenister. The Turn debuted at #21 on the UK Albums Chart on 22 October 2007. Alison left W14 shortly after the release of The Turn. Promotional videos for the tracks "One More Time", "Anytime At All" and "The Man in the Wings" are on Youtube and Moyet's Myspace site.

Sony Music released Revisited: The Very Best of Alison Moyet on 19 October 2009. The track listing was compiled by Moyet including material from her seven solo albums. The 'deluxe' version of the album contained an extra disc, with re-recorded versions of older songs. In support of the release Moyet toured the UK and Ireland during November and December 2009.

Sony Music confirmed that Moyet's four solo albums (Alf, Raindancing, Hoodoo and Essex) were being digitally re-mastered and will include b-sides and bonus material.

Jeff Mills:

Jeff Mills (born 18 June 1963 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American techno DJ and producer.

Starting in the early 1980s, Mills, using the name "The Wizard", was a recurring guest DJ on "The Electrifying Mojo" radio show on WJLB. He performed DJ tricks like beat juggling and scratching during his sets, some of which were pre-recorded.

Mills and former Parliament bass player 'Mad' Mike Banks were founding members of Detroit techno collective Underground Resistance (UR), which embraced revolutionary rhetoric and only appeared in public dressed in ski masks and black combat suits.

Mills never officially left UR, but did relocate from Detroit, first to New York, then Berlin (as a resident at the Tresor club), and then Chicago. There in 1992, with fellow Detroit native Robert Hood, he set up the record label Axis, and later, sub-labels Purpose Maker, Tomorrow, and 6277, all aiming for a more minimal sound than most of the techno being produced in those years.

In his DJ sets, Mills usually uses three decks, a Roland 909 drum-machine, and up to seventy records in one hour.Mills' Exhibitionist DVD, from 2004, features him mixing live on three decks and CD player in a studio.

In 2004, Mills created a techno score for Metropolis, which was released as an album. He also performed the score live at public screenings of the film.

In 2006, Mills recorded the album and DVD Blue Potential live with the Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Alain Altinoglu.

Amongst Glasgow's clubbing intelliegentsia, 'jeff mills' are slang for Ecstasy, since Mills has become a cult figure amongst clubbers in Glasgow, after attending Pressure, in The Arches, hosted by Slam.

Her second album Down to Earth was released on 16 September 2008.

Blake Tollison Shelton:

Blake Tollison Shelton (born June 18, 1976) is an American country music artist. In 2001, he made his debut with the single "Austin". Released as the lead-off single from his self-titled debut album, "Austin" went on to spend five weeks at Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. This song was the first single from his gold-certified debut album, which also produced two more Top 20 hits. Although the album was released on Giant Records Nashville, Shelton was transferred to Warner Bros. Records Nashville after Giant closed in late 2001.

His second and third albums, 2003's The Dreamer (his first for Warner Bros. proper) and 2004's Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill, were each certified gold as well. Shelton's fourth album, Pure BS, was issued in 2007, and re-issued in 2008 with a cover of Michael Buble's pop hit "Home" as one of the bonus tracks. This cover was also that album's third single. A fifth album, Startin' Fires, was released in November 2008. He is currently a vocal coach on the NBC reality talent show The Voice with Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green.

Overall, Shelton has charted seventeen singles on the country charts, including nine Number One hits: "Austin" (2001), "The Baby" (2003), "Some Beach" (2004–2005), "Home" (2008), "She Wouldn't Be Gone" (2009), "Hillbilly Bone" (2010), a duet with Trace Adkins, "All About Tonight" (2010), "Who Are You When I'm Not Looking" (2011), and "Honey Bee" (2011). Additionally, three more of his singles have reached Top Ten: a cover version of Conway Twitty's "Goodbye Time", "Nobody but Me", and "I'll Just Hold On."

Late January 2008, Colin leaked an unofficial remix/response to Kanye West’s Flashing Lights online. Within 10 days, the remix and accompanying street video had spread across the internet, it currently is closing in on one million views on YouTube. Perez Hilton, MTV, Pitchfork Media, Arjan Writes, Discobelle and Kanye West all covered the phenomenon. Kanye West included "I Want Those Flashing Lights" on his latest mixtape, Glow in the Dark tour Mixtape.

Rebecca Renee Olstead:

Rebecca Renee Olstead (born June 18, 1989) is an American actress and singer. Active since childhood as an actress, she is best known for her roles in the TV sitcoms Still Standing as Lauren Miller and The Secret Life of the American Teenager as Madison Cooperstein. In addition, she has recorded five studio albums, primarily of jazz music.

In 2004, Olstead released an eponymous album of jazz songs and pop standards for Warner Bros. Records to good reviews: since her previous releases had limited distribution, this album was considered her true debut. She subsequently performed in Berlin during the Live 8 concert on July 2, 2005.

Olstead also recorded with trumpeter Chris Botti on his 2005 album To Love Again: The Duets and appears on the 2006 DVD Chris Botti Live with Orchestra and Special Guests. Her singing style is influenced by such great jazz vocalists as Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. Reportedly, her musical talent was discovered by composer David Foster, who produced her 2004 album. She later also performed with Foster on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

A follow-up album entitled Skylark, also produced by Foster, was originally announced for release in 2005, but it was subsequently pushed back several times, with release dates in the summer of 2006 and early 2007 being mentioned on online retailers such as Amazon.com. It was slated for a June 2008 release, but was delayed again. It was finally released on January 27, 2009, nearly four years after it was originally announced.

Tommy DeVito (The Four Seasons):

Tommy DeVito (born Belleville, New Jersey, June 19, 1928) is an American musician and singer, best-known as a founding member and the lead guitarist of the pop group The Four Seasons. Some sources incorrectly give his birth year as 1936. He and fellow Four Seasons band member Nick Massi subtracted eight years from their true ages in order to make the group more marketable to a younger fan base.

DeVito's musical career began in the early 1950s when he formed the Variety Trio with his twin brother Nick DeVito and friend Hank Majewski. This core group performed under various names and changing lineups, including the addition in 1954 of singer Frank Castelluccio (later known as Frankie Valli). By 1956 the quartet of DeVito/Devito/Majewski/Valli had renamed themselves the Four Lovers. Tommy and Frankie remained the only consistent members of the Four Lovers, as the group released seven singles and one album under the Four Lovers name. Their 1956 debut single, Otis Blackwell's "You're the Apple of My Eye", achieved enough national sales to appear as a minor hit on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The single landed Tommy his first national television appearance, when the Four Lovers appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1956.

While his brother Nick left the group, Tommy DeVito continued his musical pursuits, reforming and realigning the group. By 1960 The Four Lovers consisted of DeVito and Valli along with Bob Gaudio and Nick Massi. This is the lineup which adopted the name "The Four Seasons" and began a string of hits with the 1962 #1 single "Sherry."

DeVito left the group in April 1970 before the album "Half and Half" was released. He sold Valli and Gaudio his rights to the Four Seasons' material, name, and touring act (Massi had left the group in 1965).

By the time he retired from the Four Seasons, DeVito's decision to form a trio to play nightclubs and bowling alleys in 1950s New Jersey had led to international fame, repeated appearances on the Billboard singles and album charts and four #1 hit singles.

DeVito, along with fellow original Four Seasons Valli, Massi and Gaudio, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999.

DeVito rejoined Valli and Gaudio (Massi had died in 2000) on stage at the 2005 Broadway opening of the documentary-style musical Jersey Boys, a Tony Award winning hit chronicling the story of the group's early days.

DeVito has written a lengthy but as-yet-unpublished autobiography (with the help of the late Rex Woodard) about his days with the group which served, along with other accounts, as background material for the musical.

Larry Dunn (Earth, Wind, & Fire):

Larry Dunn (born June 19, 1953) is a keyboardist, musical director and one of the founding members of the music group Earth, Wind, & Fire. Dunn, along with other members of Earth, Wind & Fire were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.

Born Lorenzo Dunn, he attended East High School in Denver. During most of the Earth , Wind & Fire-years , Larry produced , performed , composed and arranged for side-projects like Dee Dee Bridgewater, Caldera, Ramsey Lewis, Ronnie Laws, Stanley Turrentine, Sylvia St. James , Lenny White with Twennynine and many more.

Dunn has also toured with Al McKay and his L.A. All Stars. He is, together with ex-EWF keyboardist Morris Pleasure and ex-EWF guitarist Sheldon Reynolds, one of the founding members of the band Devoted Spirits. The first Devoted Spirits album, Devoted Spirits: A Tribute to Earth Wind and Fire, contains their cover versions of classic EWF songs as well as some new material. A second Devoted Spirits album is due to be released, called The Answer. Dunn and his wife Luisa are owners of Source Productions, and are involved in music for TV, film and commercials in addition to working with various other musicians.

Dunn has appeared live multiple times on the Jazz Matrix Show on Solar Radio with Michael J. Parlett . Dunn's second solo album will also soon be released, and this will be preceded by a single called "Finally", with the collaboration of Beloyd Taylor and James Ingram.

Ann Dustin Wilson (Heart):

Ann Dustin Wilson (born June 19, 1950) is an American musician, best known as the lead singer, flute player, songwriter, and occasional guitar player of the rock band Heart.

In 1974 Ann's younger sister Nancy joined Heart, and the band moved to Canada. Heart recorded their first album Dreamboat Annie in Vancouver in 1975; it was released in the United States in 1976. In 1977 Little Queen was released, and in 1978, Dog & Butterfly. Ann also sang the duet "Almost Paradise" with Mike Reno in the movie Footloose from 1984 which reached number seven on Billboard's Hot 100. In 1986 she released a solo single from the movie "The Golden Child" called "The Best Man in the World" which reached number sixty-one in the U.S. She also had a hit with "Surrender to Me" in 1988/1989, a duet with Cheap Trick singer Robin Zander, taken from the film Tequila Sunrise which reached number six in the U.S. singles chart.

In 1992 Ann appeared on Alice in Chains' EP Sap; she did vocals for "Brother", "Am I Inside" and "Love Song". In 1993, Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley contributed to vocals on "Ring Them Bells," a Bob Dylan cover from Heart's album Desire Walks On. In addition, Alice in Chains bassist Mike Inez and touring guitarist Scott Olson appeared on Heart's 2003 release Alive in Seattle.

Ann and Nancy started a recording studio, Bad Animals, in Seattle in the mid-1990s. They formed a side band, The Lovemongers, which performed "The Battle of Evermore" on the 1992 soundtrack to the Cameron Crowe (Nancy's then husband) movie Singles, and later released a four-song EP. The Lovemongers' debut album Whirlygig was released in 1997.

In 2006 Ann began recording her first solo album, Hope & Glory, produced by Ben Mink, and released by the Rounder (Zoe) Music Group on September 11, 2007. Hope & Glory features guest appearances from Elton John, k.d. lang, Alison Krauss, Gretchen Wilson, Shawn Colvin, Rufus Wainwright, Wynonna Judd and Deana Carter. Ann's sister, Nancy, also contributed. Four singles were released from the project, "Little Problems, Little Lies", "Isolation" and "Immigrant Song".

The Hope & Glory version of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" is available on Ann's official MySpace page, and charted as "the #9 most podcasted song of 2007" on the PMC Top10's annual countdown. Ann's powerful, piercing voice led many to refer to her as "the female Robert Plant" (Led Zeppelin's lead vocalist).

Ann joined producer Alan Parsons in the 2001 live tribute tour to Beatles music called A Walk Down Abbey Road.

In June 2007 she sang with the group Sed Nove and Ian Gillan in the Festival of Music in Paris.

Brian Phillip "Head" Welch (Korn):

Brian Phillip Welch (born June 19, 1970), better known as Head, is an American musician best known as the former lead guitarist and co-founder of the multi-platinum selling nu metal band Korn. Along with fellow Korn guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer, Welch helped patent Korn's distinctive sound, a mix of sirenlike shards of dissonant guitar that mimicked a turntablist's various effects and rumbling down-tuned riffing that defined the spook metal aesthetic beginning in the mid-'90s. Welch left the band in 2005 after becoming a Christian to focus on life as a father and to pursue his own solo career. He released his debut Christian album, Save Me from Myself, in 2008.

Head and Munky are ranked at No. 26 of Guitar World's 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time.

Dennis Lyxzen (Refused):

Dennis Lyxzen (born June 19, 1972 in Umea, Sweden) is a musician most famously known for being the lead vocalist for Swedish hardcore punk band Refused.

Aside from Refused, he has been involved in numerous Swedish bands during his musical career, acting as vocalist, bass player, or guitar player. Since Refused's break-up, his most notable bands have been The (International) Noise Conspiracy and Invasionen (Previously called The Lost Patrol Band). Lyxzen also runs Ny Vag Records, a punk record label. He acted as producer of the 2005 self-titled album by Swedish punk band Regulations, which was released on the label.

As a punk rock frontman, Lyxzen's songs are expectedly of a counter-culture nature, within line of his strong Socialist and Anarchist political views and straight edge lifestyle. Albeit his political views, he tends to maintain a level of lyrical variety throughout his various bands. Lyxzen has also been voted sexiest man in Sweden in 2004 by Elle Magazine, and is also a vegan.

In March 2010, there were rumours that Lyxzen's old band Refused was getting back together after a 12 years hiatus. This, however, was dismissed by Lyxzen as he and David Sandstrom are busy with AC4.

Nicholas Rodney "Nick" Drake:

Time Has Told Me: Troubled cure / For a troubled mind), В 1985 году группа The Dream Academy попала в английские и американские чарты со своей песней «Life In A Northern Town», которая посвящалась Нику Дрейку. The Black Crowes.

Выступал в группах Nine Inch Nails и A Perfect Circle.

Родом из маленького городка в штате Алабама, Ричи получил известность в качестве вокалиста и саксофониста вокального трио The Commodores, для которых он написал букет безупречных баллад в стиле «quiet storm» вроде «Three Times a Lady» (1977) и «Still» (1979).

Brian Douglas Wilson (The Beach Boys):

Brian Douglas Wilson (born June 20, 1942) is an American musician, best known as the leader and chief songwriter of the group The Beach Boys. Within the band, Wilson played bass and keyboards, also providing part-time lead vocals and, more often, backing vocals, harmonizing in falsetto with the group. Besides being the primary composer in The Beach Boys, he also functioned as the band's main producer and arranger. Wilson's life was derailed by years of drug abuse and mental illness, contributing to tensions with the band. After years of treatment and recuperation, he began a solo career in 1988.

That same year, Wilson and his band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which refers to Wilson on its website as "One of the few undisputed geniuses in popular music". In 2008, Rolling Stone magazine published a list of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time", and ranked Wilson number 52. Wilson won a Grammy Award in 2005 for "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow (Fire)" as Best Rock Instrumental. He is also an occasional actor and voice actor, having appeared in television shows, films, and other music artist music videos.

John Taylor (Duran Duran):

John Taylor (born Nigel John Taylor on 20 June 1960) is an English musician who is best known as the bass guitarist and co-founder of pop rock band Duran Duran. Duran Duran were one of the most popular groups in the world during the 1980s due to their revolutionary music videos that played in heavy rotation in the early days of MTV. Taylor was one of Duran Duran's most popular members.

Taylor played with Duran Duran and its changing lineups from its founding in 1978 until 1997, when he left to pursue a solo recording and film career. He made a dozen solo releases (albums, EPs, and video projects) through his company "Trust The Process" in the next four years, had a lead role in the movie Sugar Town, and made appearances in half a dozen other film projects. He rejoined Duran Duran for a full reunion of the original five members of the group in 2001.

Taylor also founded two supergroup side projects: Power Station and Neurotic Outsiders.

Amir Derakh:

Amir Davidson (stage-named Amir Derakh) (born June 20, 1963) is an American musician. He is currently guitar/synthesizer player for the band Orgy and guitar player for the band Dead by Sunrise. He was once a guitar player in the bands Rough Cutt and Jailhouse.

After graduating in 1981 from Mission Bay High School in San Diego, California, Derakh played lead guitar for local bands Armed & Ready and Emerald. He moved to Los Angeles to replace Craig Goldy in Rough Cutt.

Besides Orgy, he has a side band called Julien-K, and made a guest appearance on Crazy Town's The Gift of Game album. Julien-K released a remix of Chester Bennington's solo song "The Morning After" which appeared exclusively on the soundtrack for the 2006 film Underworld: Evolution. Derakh describes the sound of Julien-K as Depeche Mode meets Chemical Brothers.

Derakh performed backing for Chester Bennington when he performed his song "Let Down" during 2005's ReAct Now: Music & Relief televised concert. He also made an appearance in the 2003 version of the film Freaky Friday and has worked with many other bands, including Coal Chamber and Red Tape.

Chino Moreno (Deftones):

Chino Moreno (born Camillo Wong Moreno June 20, 1973) is an American musician. He is the lead singer and contributing guitarist of Deftones and Team Sleep. He is well known for his distinctive screams, as well as his soothing tenor voice while singing melodically.

Moreno was born in Sacramento, California to a Mexican father and a Spanish/Chinese mother; the latter being the origin of his Spanish nickname Chino, which means "Chinese" in Spanish. He was the third of five children.

In relation to his often ambiguous yet image-heavy poetic lyrics, Moreno quotes: " my lyrics don't deal with specific topics. I write down on paper the feelings of the moment, it's not easy to explain the contents of the lyrics or give a logical sense to the words. What I write is also a reaction to the music we make, so the Deftones' sound is not pop, it doesn't communicate happy feelings. Paradoxically my favorite songs of the album talk about love, in a clearly different view." Despite this, Chino has been known to write songs about social issues such as racism, prostitution, urban violence, and drugs. However, even these songs can be rather vague and cryptic.

He was placed at number 51 in Hit Parader's "Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time".

During the making of Deftones' White Pony, Chino began work on a side project, Team Sleep. Chino's influences include such bands as The Cure, Bad Brains, The Smiths, My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, Duran Duran, The Smashing Pumpkins, Depeche Mode, Helmet, Jawbox, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Hum, Kool Keith, Tool, Jane's Addiction and Weezer, and claims that Deftones' 2006 album, Saturday Night Wrist, is more of a compromise between all of the members' influences, ranging from their brutal and brooding heavy signature seen on Adrenaline and Around the Fur to the more experimental sound heard on White Pony and Deftones. Chino recently worked with post-hardcore band Norma Jean, on their album The Anti Mother. Chino has also worked with the band Dance Gavin Dance in the song titled "Caviar." In 2009, Moreno recorded a song with 30 Seconds to Mars to appear on their album This Is War, but was not finished. On May 2, 2010, he performed "The Kill" with 30 Seconds to Mars. He was also featured on Whitechapel's 2010 album, A New Era of Corruption.

From White Pony onwards, Moreno has been credited as contributing guitar in addition to vocals.

Chino has been working on a new side project known as "Crosses", also featuring Far guitarist Shaun Lopez and Giant Drag frontwoman Annie Hardy.

Alexandre Lagoya:

Alexandre Lagoya (June 21, 1929 – August 24, 1999) was a classical guitarist. His early career included boxing and guitar, and as he cites on the sleeve of his 1981 Columbia album, his parents hoped he would outgrow his predilection for both.

Lagoya was born in Alexandria, Egypt to a Greek father and an Italian mother. By 1955, when he married the French guitarist Ida Presti, his career had already begun. On the sleeve of his 1981 record with Columbia, Lagoya pays deep tribute to Presti and admits that after her premature death he was unable to play for years. He returned to the guitar as a teacher, tutoring among other famous guitarists the Canadian virtuoso Liona Boyd (who claims in her autobiography that she was also his lover). In the early 1980s at the advanced age of 52 he burst back on the international scene with a record for Columbia and an international tour.

Lagoya played a variety of works for guitar, performing concerts and recording albums, often collaborating with Presti and also with other musicians. Lagoya was also a successful teacher. He taught at the Paris Conservatory, and in Canada, and developed a new method of hand positioning which he believed helped people learn to play the guitar better. He also added the use of the little finger to plucking and claimed to have invented a method for maximizing the sound coming from the classical guitar.

Concerning the right hand, Alexandre Lagoya preferred the technique of plucking from the right side of the nail, and he believed it gave a more powerful sound.

O.C. Smith:

O.C. Smith (June 21, 1932 – November 23, 2001) was an American musician. His recording of "Little Green Apples", which went to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968, also sold over one million records.

Born Ocie Lee Smith in Mansfield, Louisiana, Smith moved with his parents to Little Rock, Arkansas, before their divorce saw Smith and his mother move to Los Angeles, California.

After completing a psychology degree at Southern University, Smith joined the Air Force, and served throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. While in the Air Force, Smith began entering talent contests and toured with Horace Heidt. After his discharge in July 1955, Smith went into jazz music to pay the bills.

Smith gained his first break as a singer with Sy Oliver and made an appearance on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts. His success on that show led to a recording contract with Cadence Records.

Smith's debut release was a cover of the Little Richard hit "Tutti Frutti" in December 1955. The song was not a hit, but convinced MGM Records to sign Smith to a solo contract, resulting in three more releases, but still no hits.

In 1961, Smith was recruited by Count Basie to be his vocalist, a position he held until 1965. He also continued to record with different labels, but a hit remained elusive. By 1968, Smith's then label, Columbia Records, was ready to release him from his recording contract, when he entered the charts for the first time with "Son of Hickory Holler's Tramp", which reached number 2 in the UK Singles Chart and also broke the Top 40 in the United States. In 1976 Kenny Rogers revived the hit as a country song.

Smith changed the first part of his name to O.C. and recorded the Bobby Russell written song "Little Green Apples," which went to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won Russell the 1969 Grammy Award for Song of the Year. It received a gold record from the R.I.A.A. for sales of one million records.

He continued to record, reaching the R&B, Adult Contemporary and pop charts in his home country with the likes of "Daddy's Little Man", "Friend, Lover, Woman, Wife", "Me and You" and "Love To Burn". He also returned to the UK Singles Chart in 1977 with "Together", reaching a Top 30 position.

After CBS, Smith united with Charles Wallert, who wrote and produced the title track as well as the album for "Dreams Come True" that returned Smith to the national charts. The Whatcha Gonna Do album, resulted in three nationally charted singles for a total of 40 weeks. This album contained "Brenda", "You're My First, My Last My Everything" and "Spark Of Love". Additional hits "The Best Out Of Me" and "After All Is Said And Done" established Smith as a Beach Music star. Nominated for six awards at the third Beach Music Awards, Smith captured five.

Smith became pastor and founder of The City Of Angels Church in Los Angeles, California where he practiced for 16 years. One of his last recordings, "Save The Last Dance For Me" reached the number one position on the Rhythm n' Beach Top 40 chart.

Shortly after his death, Governor Jim Hodges proclaimed June 21, 2002, 'O.C. Smith Day' in the State of South Carolina. Smith was posthumously elected to the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame in November 2002.

Brenda Holloway:

Brenda Holloway (born June 21, 1946 in Atascadero, California, United States) is an American singer and songwriter, a recording artist for the Motown label during the 1960s. Her best-known recordings are the soul hits, "Every Little Bit Hurts" and "You've Made Me So Very Happy." The latter was later widely popularized when it became a Top Ten hit for Blood, Sweat & Tears.

Born in Atascadero, California, the eldest of three children to Wade and Johnnie Mae (Fossett) Holloway. In 1948, she and her infant brother, Wade, Jr., moved with their parents to the Watts section of Los Angeles where Brenda took up violin and sang in her church choir. Her sister, Patrice, was born there three years later. At 14, she and sister Patrice began working on demonstration records and singing backup for Los Angeles-based R&B acts. In 1962, Holloway made her recording debut with the single, "Hey Fool". Two years later, she recorded the song that she would later be known for in the coming decades, "Every Little Bit Hurts".

The Motown years

After being overheard singing Mary Wells' "My Guy", Motown CEO Berry Gordy signed her to the label's Tamla imprint. For her first single, she was required to re-record "Every Little Bit Hurts," much to the budding singer-songwriter's chagrin. Released in May 1964, "Every Little Bit Hurts" became a hit for Holloway, reaching #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helping to win the singer a concert spot on Dick Clark's "Caravan of Stars" tour. Holloway followed "Every Little Bit Hurts" with the more modest "I Will Always Love You", before hitting the Top 40 again with the #25 pop hit, "When I'm Gone" (written and produced by Smokey Robinson) and released shortly after Mary Wells' Motown contract expired; Wells had recorded "When I'm Gone" before Holloway.

After the success of "When I'm Gone," Motown provided Holloway with other songs that were originally recorded by Wells, including "Operator" and "I'll Be Available". Holloway became a fixture on several 1960s television programs including Shindig!, and was later asked by The Beatles to open for them on their US tour in 1965. Holloway performed in the first rock stadium concert at Shea Stadium for the Beatles as their opening act. Holloway was only one of three female acts who opened for the Beatles; the other two were Mary Wells and Jackie DeShannon. Despite her modest success, Holloway felt out of place at Motown. Being the first West Coast-based artist on the label, she also was one of the few female artists in Motown to write her own songs, and had a much grittier approach to songs than her contemporaries at the label. Between 1966 and early 1968, Holloway recorded a string of singles that were to be put on her second album, Hurtin' & Cryin', which was never officially released. Its first single was "Just Look What You've Done", which hit the Top 30 on the R&B chart. Its follow-up was "You've Made Me So Very Happy", was one of the few singles written by Holloway allowed to be released. The single peaked at number 39 on the pop chart and number 40 on the R&B chart. Holloway left Motown in 1968. A year later, Holloway received royalties for "You've Made Me So Very Happy" when Blood, Sweat & Tears took it to number 2 on the US pop chart and the Top 40 in the UK Singles chart. One year later, Holloway retired from performing.

Joseph "Joey" Charles Molland (Badfinger):

Joseph "Joey" Charles Molland (born 21 June 1947, Edge Hill, Liverpool, England) is an English composer and rock guitarist whose recording career spans four decades. He is best known as a member of Badfinger, the most successful of the acts he performed with.

Originally a member of small local rock groups, such as The Assassins and The Profiles, Molland's recording career began in 1965 when he joined 'The Masterminds'. This group released a single on Immediate Records IM 005, consisting of a Bob Dylan cover of "She Belongs to Me" backed with a band original "Taken My Love". After this the group disbanded and Molland joined the backing group of The Merseys. Although never recording with the group, Molland accompanied them on tour.

Molland's recording career began in earnest in 1967 when he joined Gary Walker (formerly of the Walker Brothers) for the group 'Gary Walker & The Rain'. The Rain released several singles, an EP, and an album on the Polydor and Philips labels in the UK and Japan between 1967 and 1969. The album titled #1, which featured four Molland compositions, was especially well received in Japan. But a lack of success in their UK homebase caused The Rain to disband by 1969.

Molland auditioned for the band Badfinger in November 1969 and was subsequently hired. Badfinger were a conspicuous Apple Records recording group at the time (a label launched by The Beatles). The band enjoyed an early string of successful singles and albums for the next couple of years (see Badfinger article for recording information). During Molland's association with Apple, he made guest appearances on two George Harrison albums, All Things Must Pass and The Concert For Bangla Desh, and the John Lennon album Imagine.

Molland left Badfinger in late 1974 due to disagreements over management. In 1975, he joined with Jerry Shirley (formerly of Humble Pie) and formed a group called Natural Gas. The band released the LP Natural Gas on Private Stock Records in 1976, and enjoyed a successful tour with Peter Frampton the following year. According to Molland, a general lack of organization led to the band's demise late in 1977.

Molland and former Badfinger band mate Tom Evans recorded two albums under the Badfinger name, Airwaves in 1978, and Say No More in 1981. Molland and Evans split acrimoniously after Say No More and the two performed in rival touring Badfinger bands until Evans' suicide in 1983.

Most of Molland's career since 1983 has been with various groups performing tours under the Badfinger name, or as "Joey Molland's Badfinger." Earlier versions of these groups sometimes included original Badfinger drummer Mike Gibbins.

Molland was instrumental in releasing a 1974 live recording of Badfinger on Rykodisc in 1991, called Day After Day: Live, which received mixed critical reactions due to overdubbing and a rearranged track order. The release also sparked a lawsuit between Molland and former Badfinger members and their families regarding ownership and use of the concert tapes. Molland has also been criticized for his 1995 re-recording of Badfinger's hit songs for CD release. The recordings have since been distributed with packaging, showing photos displaying the original 1970s version of the group.

Molland's solo recordings have been relatively sporadic. His first, After The Pearl, was released in 1984 on Earthtone Records. His second, The Pilgrim, was released in 1992 on Rykodisc. His third, This Way Up, was independently released in 2001.

Molland now lives in Minnesota and continues to tour with the Badfinger name. Molland was married to Kathie Molland from 1972, until her death on 23 March 2009. She and Molland have two sons, Joseph and Shaun.

Marcella Detroit (Shakespear's Sister):

Marcella Detroit (born Marcella Levy, June 21, 1952 Detroit, Michigan) is a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter. She was a member of the band Shakespears Sister, along with Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama. Detroit's soprano voice provided lead vocals on their biggest hit, "Stay," which was No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart for eight weeks in 1992.

Detroit began playing with the Bob Seger band in the early 1970s, then toured and recorded with Leon Russell and the Gap Band in early 1974, before joining Eric Clapton’s band in September 1974. While working with Clapton, she wrote several songs with him, including "Lay Down Sally." After leaving Clapton's band, she did session work for a number of artists, including Aretha Franklin, Al Jarreau, Alice Cooper, Stanley Clarke and Bette Midler. In 1980, she duetted with Robin Gibb on the song "Help Me!," featured on the soundtrack of the film "Times Square." The single peaked at No. 50 in the USA. In 1981, she provided the singing voice for the character Frankie in Ralph Bakshi's animated movie American Pop. She recorded her first solo album, "Marcella," under her birth name, in 1982, and wrote material for Chaka Khan, Belinda Carlisle Al Jarreau and Phillip Bailey, amongst others. In 1985 she worked for Clapton again, and performed with him at Live Aid.

In 1988 she was introduced to Siobhan Fahey by mutual friend and producer and songwriter Richard Feldman. Together they wrote songs that formed the first Shakespears Sister album, "Sacred Heart," where Detroit also performed backing vocals. Shakespears Sister went on to achieve a UK top 10 hit with "You're History" in August 1989, although Detroit was still not a full member and the album only featured Fahey on the cover. At about this time she adopted the name Marcella Detroit, after her birthplace. By the second album the group had its biggest success in 1992 with the ballad "Stay," the only song by the group on which Detroit was the primary lead vocal. Tensions arose between Fahey and Detroit when Detroit hired her own manager and demanded 50% of Shakespears Sister. Fahey ended the partnership in 1993 and continued by herself as a solo artist and then again as Shakepears Sister.

After leaving the duo, Detroit, still signed to London Records, restarted her solo career and released the album Jewel in 1994. The album peaked at No. 15 in the UK and went gold, and she had three UK top 40 hits: "I Believe" (UK #11), "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" (a duet with Elton John) (UK #24), and "I'm No Angel" (UK #33). Dissatisfied with London Records, she left the label in 1995. She said she left as she felt London Records wanted her to become the next 'Annie Lennox'.

In 1996 she released the album "Feeler," under her own label AAA Records Ltd. Four singles were released off it: "I Hate You Now...," "Boy," "Flower" and "Somebody's Mother." She achieved commercial success in Australia and Japan with "Boy." When asked if "I Hate You Now..." was directed at Siobhan Fahey, Detroit has replied 'no', but she posted many comments about Fahey on her personal website. She later retracted these comments, saying her husband posted them and not her.

Her next album was 2001's "Dancing Madly Sideways," which was sold through her website. In 2002, she collaborated with Aurora, singing lead vocals in the cover "If You Could Read My Mind" and the original "To Die For," which were released on the group's self-titled album.

In 2004 she began using her birth name again, as she returned to her blues roots and started playing with Carlos Guitarlos. She also signed a publishing deal with A7 music and started writing music for Charlotte Church and Alex Parks, among others. In September 2006 she released a blues album, "The Upside of Being Down" under the name Marcy Levy Band.

In April 2007 she released digitally a pop/dance song called "Mystery to Me" with Loverush UK. In 2008, she collaborated with Swedish band Vacuum on the song "My Friend Misery," and with British band Rosie and the Goldbug on the track "Soldier Blues."

Other appearances have included a 1996 episode of "Absolutely Fabulous," in which Detroit played an angel (and performed a few songs alongside Marianne Faithfull), and the novelty album "The Simpsons Sing the Blues," on which Detroit was a vocal talent. One of her most recent recordings was with Alex Dixon, grandson of Willie Dixon, on his 2009 release "Rising From The Bushes," in which she appeared on two tracks: "Fantasy" and "Paint You A Picture".

In January 2010 Detroit participated in the British ITV1 celebrity reality television program, "Popstar to Operastar." She finished as a joint semifinalist alongside Kym Marsh in week 5 of the competition. When the voting statistics were released it was revealed that she had more votes than Marsh; therefore she came third overall. She was also only three percent behind Darius Campbell, who went on to become the winner.

In May 2010 Marcella performed a full solo concert in Hyde Park to 17,000 people preparing to walk a marathon around London at night, during the 13th Playtex Moonwalk. At this concert she debuted her new single, the ballad "All Is Forgiven," which was released that same day through iTunes.

Kip Winger (Winger):

Kip Winger (born Charles Frederick Kip Winger, June 21, 1961, Denver, Colorado) is an American rock musician, both a member of the hard rock band, Winger, and a solo artist.

Winger's first commercial break came in 1984, when he co-wrote a song for KIX's third album, Midnite Dynamite. During that time he was working closely with the record producer, Beau Hill, recording bass and vocals on various records. While Reb Beach was working on Fiona Flannigan's Beyond the Pale record at Atlantic, Winger and Beach were introduced to each other, and later began recording demos. Later, in 1985, Winger joined Alice Cooper's band. After making two albums with Cooper, Winger left in March 1987 to focus on his own band.

Winger returned to New York to work on songs with Reb Beach. They were joined by drummer Rod Morgenstein and keyboard player Paul Taylor. They initially performed under the name Sahara, but eventually changed their name to Winger, at Alice Cooper's suggestion.

The band Winger released three of its nine albums (Winger (1988), In the Heart of the Young (1990), and Pull (1993)) before they each moved on to have solo careers.

Brandon Flowers (The Killers):

Брэндон Флауэрс (англ. Brandon Flowers) — вокалист, клавишник и автор большинства текстов группы The Killers.

The Cure.
